The Glorification of Skinny

This is me at 19 (no- I’m not about to make a National Championship joke 🤪) But this is me at my absolute skinniest. I was skinny- like skinny jeans are too big for me skinny. ⁣ 🗣AND SO MISERABLY UNHAPPY ⁣ Depressed, scared and unhealthy- but man DID I LOOK GOOD!!! ⁣ I saw a post today about the glorification of weight loss and it struck me. ⁣ Why are we forever on this journey to our skinniest selves? Why are we so flattered when people tell us we look tiny? Why and since when has this become a goal of ours in society? A pillar by which we judge each other’s worth and value? ⁣ Stop. Just please stop.⁣ ▪️Stop starving your body for the attention your mind craves. Do you really want to be skinny? Or deep down do you just want to be loved? ▪️Being skinny is not a character trait or a compliment. Let’s quit treating it as such.⁣ ▪️Why don’t we instead try to get healthy vs. trying to get skinny? ⁣ If you’re on a quest to be skinny this New Year, I’d challenge you to ask yourself why and be honest about your true motivations. Skinny does not always equal happy. And it surely doesn’t guarantee healthy.⁣ ⁣ Let’s stop glorifying weight loss like it’s the most impressive thing a human can do. ⁣ Shoutout to Melissa Hartwig for putting this on my heart today 🖤 And for those of you who needed to hear this, this is me officially giving you permission to get off the ride 🆗⁣ ⁣ (also lol at this outfit. i will save that commentary for another time 🤦🏽‍♀️🤣)
