Today on my lunch break I stopped by my local animal shelter (Operation Kindness) to donate some unopened pet toys that I have been collecting in my garage (winter cleaning is apparently a thing in my household). As I was carrying in items with one of the employees, I asked her how she does it. Being around homeless animals all the time- I think it would crush me.⠀ ⠀ She turned to me and smiled- “That’s because you haven’t seen the look on someone’s face when they adopt an animal,” she said. “That feeling when you know you are helping someone or something that can’t help itself- it’s the greatest gift I have ever been given.”⠀ ⠀ I stopped and looked at her- just completely frozen in the utter selflessness of this woman. And I thanked her- as it was exactly what I needed in that moment.⠀ ⠀ You know, being a good person isn’t always convenient. It’s not easy and it definitely isn’t always fun. Sometimes it’s downright the exact opposite.⠀ ⠀ But what it is, is worth it.⠀ ⠀ Maybe you needed to hear this today like I did. A true silver lining story and a taste of a beautiful human spirit💫
